Oscar Escalada is Professor of conducting and composition at the Conservatory of La Plata. In 1988 he founded and conducted the Children’s Choir of the “Teatro Argentino de La Plata”, the Opera House of the Province of Buenos Aires. Escalada is also founder and conductor of Coral del Nuevo Mundo (New World’s Chorale) With his choirs he had big successes all over American countries. He is also a well known composer of musical comedies and a publisher. He is for instance the director of the Latin American Choral Music series published by Neil A. Kjos, Music Co. in San Diego, USA. As a teacher of music Oscar Escalada has been invited to give lectures, workshops, seminars and adjudicate all over his country (Argentina), USA, Venezuela, Cuba, Spain, England, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Germany, and at the IFCM's V World Symposium for Choral Music. He is Vice-President of the Argentine Association for Choral Music (AAMCANT), and member of the Musical Committee of the America Cantat III held in Caracas, Venezuela in 2000 and the Choral Festival of Munich, Germany. He has been invited to give a seminar at the America Cantat IV in Mexico in April 2004. He received an award from the Senate of Argentina in 2001 for his work “The music and the National Identity”. 2004 he was invited to give a lecture at the University of Yale. The Yale Alumni Chorus honored him with one of the three hundred medals coined for the tricentennial of Yale University in 2001. On April 2007 he attended America Cantat V in Cuba as a member of the Musical Committee. He received the Iris Marga 2007 Award for his composition “The misfortune of Alice in Wonderland”.
