John Helgen is a piano player, arranger/composer and church musician from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He currently serves as Director of Music Ministry at Roseville Lutheran Church. He was born in Austin, Minnesota and grew up in Osakis. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, where he studied with Dr. Charles Forsberg and received a B.A. in Music Theory/Composition. He also sang in the St. Olaf Choir and studied conducting with Dr. Kenneth Jennings. He has a law degree from the University of Minnesota. Since 1979 he has lived in the Minneapolis area. His performing credits include numerous appearances as the pianist/leader of the jazz and variety quartet First Inversion and as keyboardist/arranger with the Jay Beech Band. He belongs to the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) as well as the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the American Guild of Organists (AGO), and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM). |
