Giampiero Castagna was born in Turin in 1961. He graduated in Music and Choral Conducting and later in Composition at the Turin Conservatory, studying with M.° Gilberto Bosco. In the chamber and symphonic fields, he has been awarded prizes in several national and international composition competitions, including the Bucchi in Rome, the Mozart '91 Competition in Vienna (with performance in the Musikverein season), the ATEM Briccialdi review in Terni, the "Oltre l'Avanguardia" Competition in Turin and the "Antonio Bacchelli" Competition in Livorno. His works have been performed in Italy and abroad. In recent years he has devoted himself particularly to choral music, with original compositions and elaborations that have won prizes and awards (Canary Islands, Valle d'Aosta, Cori del Trentino, "Di Cori un altro Po" 2017, Arcova 2019, 2021 and 2023, "Corinfesta" 2019, 2021 and 2023, "Varese Virtual Choir" 2020, Concurso Amadeus - Spain 2020, Canta Petrarca 2020, Seghizzi 2020 and 2022, Guido d'Arezzo 2021 and 2023, Bondì cara Venezia 2022, New Music of Livenza 2022, Padre Turoldo 2022). He works as a teacher in secondary school and collaborates with chamber and vocal ensembles, conducting two folk choirs in the province of Turin.
