Festa Costanzo, born ca. 1480 in Villafranca Piemonte (near Turin), died on 10th April 1545 in Rome; Italian composer and one of the first Italian representatives of the imitated motet style and madrigal composition. In 1517 he began his work at the Pontifical cathedral in Rome. Works of him which are still preserved contain 2 books madrigals (for 3 voices) (Venice 1541 and 1543), magnificat (for 4 voices) (ibidem 1554) and litanies (for 8 voices) (Munich 1583) as well as masses and a large number of motets, hymns, magnificats and lamentations predominantly in handwritten transmissions. His Te Deum is still being sung at major festivities in the Vatican. Edition: Opera omnia, edited by A.
