Biography and Educational Background: born in Halle/S. in 1938, she attended the August-Hermann-Francke Secondary School from 1952 to 1956, and, after passing the school-leaving exam in 1956, she took up English and German studies at the “Martin-Luther-University” in Halle, passed her state examinations there in 1961, worked as a teacher, now she is an old age pensioner and has been living in Dresden for about five years. Musical Education and Interests: Since her childhood she has been interested in Classical Music, got music lessons (piano and accordion). From the year 1952 to 1953 she was a pupil of the class “9M” (main focus in music, art education and latin), how the newly founded artistic branch of the “Franckesche Stiftungen” was called. She got very good music lessons by Willi Maertens, a lecturer from the M.-L.-University. Hannelore Kunze was also a member of the “Konzertchor Riesa” for some years and participated in courses for Saxon choirmasters for four times. She made her first attempts at setting poems to music at the end of the nineties, which her husband, Hans Kunze who died in 2008, had written. She published four of their Saxon songs in “Wie lieb ich dich, mein Sachsenland”. Hannelore Kunze has been a senior student since 1999, taking part in lectures and courses of the TU and the Conservatory “Carl Maria von Weber” (e.g. history of music, setting, counterpoint, harmony, theory of musical forms and musicology).
