Angelo Mazza was born in Milan, where he received diplomas in Piano, Choral music and choral conducting, Vocal polyphony, Composition and orchestral conducting at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory. As a choir conductor he has been present at many Festivals and competitions, winning numerous prizes and awards with his ensembles including first prize at the International Polyphonic Competition "Guido d'Arezzo" in 1965 with the male choir "ALPI" from Milan. From 1982 to 1993 he was the conductor of the "Accademia Corale di Lecco" with which he executed, in addition to the polyphonic repertory, many pieces for solo, choir and orchestra in cooperation with the instrumental ensemble "La Nuova Cameristica" from Milan. His composing activity is mainly focused on choral music, both sacred and secular, and on chamber music. He is well known for his transcriptions and arrangements of ancient popular folk music. He is member of the Artistic Committee of U.S.C.I. (Union Italian Choral Associations) in Lombard district. He is often invited as a jury member in national and international contests. He was formerly professor of Theory, Harmony and Analysis at the Milan Conservatory and more recently he taught in a specialization course for chorus-singers at Academy of "Teatro alla Scala".
